AR area
More modern approaches monitor important production or manufacturing steps as individual solutions in order to minimize or eliminate errors. At the Department of Media Production, state-of-the-art AR technologies and applications will be investigated to detect process variations even faster and to be able to correct them. The focus is on monitoring an entire process line in a company. In this way, the proportion of errors in production is to be significantly reduced through the use of new 3D sensor systems and the passing on of defective parts is to be completely prevented.
VR area
With the current use of VR as a product demonstrator or design support, the potential of the technology is far from exhausted. At the Department of Media Production, holistic concepts for the user- and task-oriented use of VR in product development are being investigated and developed. The focus is on the interrelationships of product model, product behavior, life phases and context as well as the user- and task-oriented methods and tools in VR development environments that are adapted to these. The use of digital human models is also applied. Finally, all investigations result in results that are as technology-independent as possible, i.e. the use in a CAVE, on head-mounted displays or powerwalls.
