In contrast to Augmented Reality, Diminished Reality removes virtual objects from the scene. Based on several computer vision approaches, unwanted objects will be detected and replaced. With the help of an in-painting step, the user gets a plausible and consistent overall impression.
The following video shows the approach called PixMix. This approach was developed at our research facility and it was the first real-time Diminished Reality system. All calculations can be done in real-time. This implies that the approach can be used in a wide range of applications e.g. live-streams and real-time content editing. The system even runs on mobile devices.
