At www.tu-ilmenau.de you can find the examination and study regulations under the programme of study and your degree programme. These regulate the course of your studies. You should read as soon as you have some time, but at the latest before the first examination phase.

When calculating your Bachelor grade, all examinations of a module are weighted with the credit points and summarised to a module grade. The module grades are cut off after the first decimal place and combined with the other academic achievements such as the Bachelor thesis (all weighted according to credit points) to form the overall grade and again cut off after the first decimal place.

You have a right to see your exam and from experience we highly recommend that you take advantage of this. Often the lecturers offer central dates. If you are unable to attend these dates, you can ask for another date. However, the inspection should take place within 8 weeks of the start of the following lecture period. (PO-AB §30)

You can use a free attempt if you want to write an exam for the second time because you

    a) failed the first time or

    b) you want to improve your examination performance.

In the case of a), your first attempt counts as "never written". This has the advantage that you do not have to repeat the exam within one year and you have a total of four attempts to pass the exam.

With b), the better result of the two exams counts.

In principle, you can only use free attempts for exams that you have written for the first time in the semester in which they are scheduled according to the study plan. You can download the form from the Examination Portal and must complete, print it out, and sign it before handing it in to the Examinations Office. This must be done before the retake deadline comes into effect and before registering for the examination.

If you are ill on an examination date, you need a medical certificate. You should hand this in to the Examinations Office within two to four days of the event.

You must have written an exam for the first time no later than in the 4^th semester after the standard period of study. (PO-AB §19)

You can only withdraw from a registered examination a maximum of four days before the examination. To do so, simply withdraw from the exam in the Examination Portal. (PO-AB §14 (6))

In addition to examination performances (PL), there are graded (Sb) and ungraded (S) mock exams. However, the grades are not included in the calculation of the Bachelor's grade. Mock exams are not subject to the regulations of the examination regulations. You can therefore write them as often as you like.

Thoska Cards (student ID cards) issued from the winter semester 2021/22 will only be used to pay in the refectory, as a ticket for the train within Thuringia and as an access key for certain rooms. You can now register for exams without a Thoska under the link Prüfungsportal TU Ilmenau.
The old Thoska Cards remain valid and all functions - except for exam registration - can be used as before.

If you have fallen behind with your study plan, a semester off is one way to catch up. In a semester off, you are only allowed to take exams from previous semesters. However, you have the advantage that your examination deadlines are extended by the number of semesters you are on leave. However, this does not apply to the time limits for repeating exams! The times recommended in the study plan for the exams are also postponed by the number of semesters on leave (note the free attempts, because you can only register for exams that you have written for the first time at the recommended time).

You should make every effort to avoid the following situations, otherwise you will be expelled from the university.

• You have failed an exam and have not taken it again within one year (missed the deadline for retaking the exam).

• You fail a 2^nd resit exam (your 3^rd attempt)

• You fail a 1^st resit examination, but have already passed 40% of all examinations only in the 2nd attempt (2nd resit examination).

• Your Bachelor's thesis is repeatedly assessed as "insufficient".

If you fail an examination, you must sit for the examination again after two semesters at the latest. (PO-AB §16 (2))

Example: Student X failed "Physics 1" in the first semester, he must now take "Physics 1" again in the third semester at the latest.
