Bachelor Courses

Multimediaprojekt

The target group of the course are bachelor students of media technology in the first semester. The goal of the two-semester project is the independent planning, organization and processing of a task in small groups. The students combine knowledge from media technology, electrical engineering and computer science using a Raspberry Pi, a single-board computer. The first semester includes project planning as well as tutorials in Linux, Python and GIT. The second semester includes the actual implementation of the self-developed project idea. Regular consultations and presentations take place during the entire processing time.

The course takes place in presence, supplemented by tutorials available online. Further details and teaching materials are available in the accompanying WiSe22 Multimedia Project Moodle course: https://moodle2.tu-ilmenau.de/course/view.php?id=4294.

Enrollment in the Moodle course is mandatory for all participating students.

User-Centric Engineering 1

The target group of the course are bachelor students of media technology and computer science , as well as master students of media business.  The course is offered since winter semester 2021/2022 as a substitute course for Usability Engineering 1. The aim of the course is to teach the basics of user-centered development of interactive systems. In this respect, basic principles in usability engineering and quality of experience will be taught. In addition to the weekly lectures, accompanying seminars are offered in the form of Moodle quizzes and exercises.

The course takes place in presence, supplemented by online available Moodle quizzes. Further details and teaching materials are available in accompanying WiSe22 User-Centric Engineering 1 Moodle course: https://moodle2.tu-ilmenau.de/course/view.php?id=4286.

Hauptseminar

The target group of the course are bachelor students of media technology in the fifth semester. The course will take place in cooperation with the departments of Electronic Media Technology and Audiovisual Technology. The aim of the course is to teach the basics of scientific writing and presentation and thus prepare students for the bachelor thesis. Topics are selected at the beginning of the semester from a list of specific media technology issues. During the processing period, regular consultations and presentation appointments as well as a basic course on scientific work of the university library are scheduled.

Master Courses

Crowdsourcing and Human-Based Computing

Even today, a large number of tasks cannot be processed completely automatically. In addition to complex and creative activities, these tasks include subjective evaluations and, in some cases, relatively simple classification tasks. Crowdsourcing or human-based computation is often used to solve small tasks efficiently that cannot be solved automatically.
In this course, the basics of crowdsourcing and human-based computation will be taught, especially how existing tasks can be decomposed and processed in such a way that they can be efficiently distributed and processed by humans. Among other things, the course includes topics like typical quality assurance mechanisms, the use of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, and possibilities for the technical implementation of tasks.

The course takes place in presence, supplemented by online available content in Moodle. Further details and teaching materials are available in accompanying WiSe22 Crowdsourcing and Human-Based Computing Moodle course: https://moodle2.tu-ilmenau.de/course/view.php?id=4295.

Enrollment in the Moodle course is mandatory for all participating students.

Information Management for Public Mobility Services (IFÖM)

Public transport is an essential component for achieving important climate goals. The lecture will comprehensively cover the basics of public mobility services, including project management, legal framework, financing, service planning, traffic control, incident management, train control, infrastructure, dispatching, operations and traffic management, sales, IT system landscape of a transport company, ITS in public transport, algorithms for timetable information, information needs of the public transport customer, design of passenger information and future topics in public transport & mobility.

The event will be held in cooperation with German industry representatives and will be held in two semesters for organizational reasons. In the winter semester, all lectures will take place as a block event from March 27 to 31, 2023. The exercises as well as the written exam will take place in the summer semester 2023.

The course will take place in presence, supplemented by online available content. Further details and teaching materials are available on the IFÖM website and in the accompanying WiSe22 Information Management for Public Mobility Services (IFÖM) Moodle course: https://moodle2.tu-ilmenau.de/course/view.php?id=4296.
