Industry development: Virtually full employment for mathematicians
Unemployment? This word hardly appears in the professional reality of mathematicians. According to figures from the German Federal Employment Agency (BA), around 100,000 of them were employed in Germany in 2017. That's a third more than ten years earlier. And in 2018, the agency recorded an average of just 700 unemployed mathematicians, a drop of seven percent compared to 2017. The bottom line is an unemployment rate of 2.4 percent. That's very low: a rate of three percent or more is officially considered full employment.
