The Technical Physics course combines experimental and theoretical physics with knowledge from mathematics, computer science and engineering sciences and is rounded off by the teaching of personal and social skills as well as business administration and law. This education at the highest level thus combines the way of thinking and working of physicists with the technical understanding of engineers and enables interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work in research, industry and development.
The institute's research focuses on the physics of condensed matter and its interaction with light and other electromagnetic fields. The questions range from fundamental physics at the temperature of liquid helium, surface analysis and NMR to technically and socially important topics such as solar hydrogen and nanostructured battery electrodes. Theoretical calculations and numerical simulations complement the experiments, for which state-of-the-art laboratory equipment is available.
