A: Case files

A1: Hochschule für Elektrotechnik Ilmenau / Technische Hochschule Ilmenau (1953-1968)

The tradtion of the Hochschule für Elektrotechnik Ilmenau and the Technische Universität Ilmenau from 1953 until the 3rd university reform in 1968 are very unevenly weighted. While the rectorate and the university administration are well documented in rudimentary form, there are very large gaps in the records of the faculties and other academic institutions.

A2: Technische Hochschule Ilmenau (1968-1992)

The period from the 3rd university reform to the granting of university status to the Technische Hochschule Ilmenau (1968-1992) is well preserved. In particular, the rectorate and the directorates form the main focus of the records. The tradition of the sections are now becoming somewhat denser, even though there are still large gaps.

A3: Technische Universität Ilmenau (from 1992)

The tradition of the Technische Universität Ilmenau from 1992 onwards are comparatively well balanced. However, some documents are still in the organizationel units or in the interim archive of the university or are subject to ongoing protection periods and are therefore not yet available for use by third parties.

The personal files form a special category of the tradition. Student, doctoral and personnel files are characterised by a certain uniformity. As a rule, they are person-related and are subject to the protection periods for person-related archival records.
