ACCESS RESTRICTIONS

Generally, everyone has the right to use the archive records of the University Archives. However, this right to information is limited by the need to protect third parties. In this context please notice three protection options in particular:

1. COPYRIGHT AND OTHER PROTECTIVE RIGHTS

Archival records which are subject to copyright or other protective rights may be restricted in their use or blocked altogether if the interests of the authors or persons concerned are affected. In addition, there may be specific agreements restricting the consultation of archival records.

2. ARCHIVAL RESTRICTIONS

Access may be restricted or prohibited if the state of order, the lack of indexing or the the status of conservation do not permit an inspection of the archival records.

3. PROTECTION PERIODS

Protection periods also limit access to archival records in order to protect the interests of both the university and affected individuals. Three protection periods with different contents are distinguished:

Nevertheless, you have the possibility to use the archive records within the retention period if the inspection is indispensable for your scientific research and the interests of third parties worthy of protection are not impaired. Please fill in the application for shortening the retention period and send it to us together with the application for use bye-mail or by post. We will be happy to advise you on this by telephone or in a personal meeting on site.
