Digital Twin Representation of Radio Channels (D-TRaCe)

The goal of D-TRaCe is to minimize the financial, time and personnel expenditure for the characterization of a mobile radio environment. To this end, a method is to be developed with which realistic radio channel realizations can be obtained in a simulative environment in a simple, fast and flexible manner. In order to obtain a realistic model, a fast and cost-effective measurement method based on artificial intelligence is to be developed, which is able to calibrate the simulation environment to a specific scenario in such a way that its results are realistic - a digital twin in the sense of electromagnetic wave propagation is created. The method developed will be particularly useful in scenarios with strong multipath propagation. For this reason, new methods for detection, localization, tracking and resource allocation are to be developed in the context of ICAS as part of D-TRaCe, which take advantage of both the realism and the flexibility of the simulation environment developed.

In particular, the results of the project include models, algorithms and software components for mapping radio wave propagation in complex environments. The models and methods developed are transferable to practical scenarios, in particular to industrial radio networks and applications in the field of Integrated Communications and Sensing (ICAS). They can be used to support planning, simulation and optimization processes in communication and sensor systems, for example in localization, tracking or resource allocation in mobile radio networks.
