Gender-equitable and inclusive language

A non-discriminatory and appreciative working and study environment with modern teaching, learning and research conditions is a self-declared goal for TU Ilmenau and also includes gender equality as a cross-sectional task. Language and its effectiveness are a key element here, as language creates reality and generates images. A gender-equitable and inclusive use of language is therefore a sign of respect and appreciation, to which TU Ilmenau is clearly committed in a guideline for official communication.

Linguistic equality requires a flexible use of language, as there are many ways to achieve this. The Equal Opportunities, Diversity and Health Department has produced a "Language Toolbox " handout to support practical implementation, provide recommendations and show examples of use.
