Inclusion

With the approval of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD), a fundamental reform of disability law was initiated in Germany in 2008. Inclusion is a human right in Germany, and therefore every university has an obligation to work for comprehensive equal opportunities and participation for all people.

In 2019, the TU Ilmenau has drawn up an action plan to implement the UN CRPD. This action plan for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is the result of the work of a coordinating working group on inclusion, which has been active since 2016 and is chaired by the chancellor, and of five sub-working groups (UAGs), each of which is headed by a member of the rectorate responsible for a specific area of action. Representatives of all stakeholders, interest groups and the Studierendenwerk Thüringen were involved in the work. You can read the action plan here.

In 2018, the Higher Education Act stipulated that every university must appoint a diversity officer. Since 2019, this office has been held by Andrea Krieg. She is the head of the Department for Equality, Diversity and Health.

Inclusion representatives are appointed by the employer and represent the employer responsibly in matters relating to severely disabled persons. The inclusion officers are responsible for the implementation of the inclusion concept and, above all, ensure that obligations incumbent on the employer are fulfilled. The inclusion officers are the central points of contact for all questions relating to inclusion and the implementation of the law on severely disabled persons. They are available at all times to advise and assist all employees.

The team of the Severely Disabled Representation (SBV) of the Ilmenau University of Technology performs its duties in accordance with § 178 SGB IX to the text of the law. The SBV is happy to advise and support you in all questions of integration into working life, health problems in working life or prolonged illness and in the design of the workplace. The team will help you with applications to offices and authorities and will be involved in dismissal protection proceedings. Therefore, do not hesitate to contact the SBC team in good time. Your questions will be treated confidentially, and solutions will only be found together with you. The common goal is to create very good working conditions for severely disabled persons and persons treated as equal by the Federal Employment Agency at the TU Ilmenau.

The central goal of occupational integration management is to quickly reintegrate employees into the university's operations after an extended period of illness. At the same time, it serves to prevent further illnesses and incapacity for work of the integrated employees. The BEM of the TU Ilmenau includes various offers and services that support and promote the employees. The activities are coordinated by the Department of Human Resources.
