Alumni meeting of the AMW degree program

25 years after starting their studies at the TU Ilmenau, a group of alumni of our AMW degree program visited their alma mater again. Jens Wolling (Institute Director of the IfMK and Head of the FG EMPK) had the pleasure of welcoming them and talking to them about the old days and the current challenges.

The main topics of the conversation were the questions of which characteristics of our degree programs helped them to successfully establish themselves in the profession and which new challenges a modern communication science education has to face.

Our graduates agreed that the interdisciplinary skills in particular help them in their day-to-day work. They also described analytical skills as very important, rather than factual knowledge, which quickly becomes outdated anyway. They recommend continuing to focus on interdisciplinarity and also devoting more attention to the topic of artificial intelligence. They described the idea of devoting special attention to the topic of sustainability as contemporary and forward-looking.

After two hours of lively discussions, our alumni offered to advise and support our institute with their practical experience in the further development of our courses. We will gladly accept this offer.
