Open Access book series: NEU Communication

The book series "NEU-Kommunikation" is a forum for scientific research on sustainability, energy and environmental communication. The series publishes monographs, edited volumes and conference proceedings in open access gold format. Dialogue

Dialogue is a method that enables people in political and/or ethical conflicts and in situations of social division to actively listen to "the other" and build mutual understanding. Dialogue helps to make deadlocked situations manageable and to improve social relations in a society. Members of the field were appointed by the Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue in Norwayin the "Dialogue" method. They apply "Dialogue" to political and social problems identified in the EMPK research projects. The department is a partner of the Ilmenau Dialogue Center IDC.

Conference organizations

  • From February 10 - 11, 2022, the EMPK department hosted the 6th annual conference of the "Science Communication" section of the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies. Under the topic "Climate (change) communication", the diversity of communication on climate change and its scientific analysis was examined. The conference has been published in the open access series "NEU-Kommunikation". conference proceedingswith a total of 12 contributions.
  • The annual conference of the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies (DGPuK) was held in Ilmenau from May 12 - 14, 2010. Organized by the FG EMPK and the FG MKM, 350 scientists analyzed the topic "Media Innovations - How Media Developments Change Communication in Society". The results of the conference are published in the conference proceedings published.
  • The 12th annual conference of the specialist group "Computer-mediated Communication" (now: Digital Communication) of the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies was organized by the EMPK department from 6 - 8 November 2008. The conference was held on the topic of "Politics 2.0 - Politics and Computer-Mediated Communication". The results are published in the conference proceedings "Politics 2.0 - The effect of computer-mediated communication on the political process".
  • On 20.06.2008, the department organized a scientific colloquium on the topic of "Individualized use of media" as part of the Ilmenau Media Forum 2008. The scientific colloquium is accompanied by a conference proceedings with the same title has been published by the Ilmenau University Press and is available open access.
