Successful completion of the habilitation process of Dr. Christina Schumann

On March 6, Christina Schumann completed the last step of her habilitation procedure with the scientific colloquium. In a 45-minute lecture on the topic: "The Corona-crisis as political crisis? Cognitive (de)radicalization and the mass media" she analyzed the longitudinal correlations between the acceptance of violence and threats towards politicians and the trust in journalistic mass media. Using an 8-wave panel survey, she showed that journalistic mass media have the potential to mitigate political radicalization in the citizenry. In the following colloquium, the results were discussed with the commission members and other participants.

We congratulate Ms. Schumann on her successful habilitation and wish her all the best for the future! Her next steps will take her to the University of Augsburg, where she will initially spend a year as a visiting professor of communication studies with a focus on reception and impact research.
