Hübner, Erik;
- 30 S. : Ilmenau, Techn. Univ., Bachelor-Arbeit, 2010

Today more and more people are being diagnosed with the so called mild cognitive impairment (MCI), which is often said to be a preliminary stage to Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. Although the cognitive functions of these people with MCI are impaired they can live alone needing only a little support for mastering everyday life. In order to disburden nurses or caregivers and not to overload nursing homes it is of great importance to support people suffering under MCI at home as soon as a diagnosis is made. One approach to deal with this situation is the attempt to install a service robot into the home of the patient. Such a robot would among other things be able to remember important tasks, get useful information, offer entertainment services and to provide them in a well-structured way to the patient. In this bachelor's thesis one of these projects, the CompanionAble project, should be extended by some services providing useful information to the patient in a simple and clean way. In order to provide the needed information it was necessary to reasearch possibilities of getting useful information from independent providers through the internet - for example via web services. To display these information an information service browser and three modules providing information about the weather, news and cooking recipes were implemented with the possibility of adding new information services by just including the module into the service browser. These information services give the possibility to warn the patient - for exmaple if the person attempts to leave the house when it's cold or gustly - or to remind him of something - for example to look up a recipe when the patient forgot some of the ingredients.
