Lean Plastics Technologies GmbH

Processing thermoplastics into powders for 3D printing.

Lean Plastics Technologies was founded in 2018 and processes thermoplastics into powders for additive manufacturing (3D printing). Their unique pulverization technology enables the production of customized plastic powders. The goal is to make 3D printing more industrializable and transform the material world.

The founding duo, Matthias Düngen and Martin Langlotz, were already conducting research together at the Technical University of Ilmenau in the Department of Plastics Engineering under the direction of Professor Dr.-Ing. Michael Koch. Projects for the development of processes and machines for processing thermoplastics were the focus of these activities - the expertise gained in plastics technology as well as experience in project acquisition, financing, team management and property rights ultimately led to the founding of the company in 2018.

Lean Plastics Technologies solves the material bottle neck of powder-based plastic 3D printing. The company uses its process technology to refine plastic granules into powders for additive manufacturing processes such as selective laser sintering (SLS), binder jetting and multi-jet fusion. Until now, there has only been a limited choice of plastics for powder-based additive manufacturing processes. This is where LPT's pulverization processes come in and make it possible to expand the range of usable plastics and thus open up new fields of application using AM. The working style is oriented to customer benefits and continuously recalibrates the objectives and approach to the given requirements, findings and opportunities.

In 2021, the company won the "IQ Innovationspreis Mitteldeutschland Chemie/Kunststoff" (IQ Innovation Award Central Germany Chemistry/Plastics) and has already been able to go through several rounds of financing.
